well actuallly i raced one on sunday night! i was just leaving the movies with my g/f and this guys pulls up next to me rev's and takes off. i looked at my g/f and she was like ok go get him just this once! so i dropped the car down to 2nd and took off. i was closing in when i heard him floor it and as i was in 3rd gear at about 5000rpms i was equal with him. then i passed him and started pulling away by a 1/2 a car, then that was it b/c out of know where he braked hard and made a left hand turn! i didn't think i would win but maybe the guy just couldn't drive.

I'd also like to know this. I was a phone call away from owning a rx8 rather than my ss/sc.

An Rx8 vs SS/SC is a good race, an RX8 vs an S281 is a murder.

The RX8 has about the same HP but way less torque how is it even a match for a SS/SC only a 1.3L engine.

It's not, really...at least not in a straight line. They typically run about .5 to 1 second behind in the 1/4, which can be anywhere from 3 to 10 car lengths. However on a track it's a whole different story.

yea it might only be a 1.3liter engine, but they an rev a hell of alot higher than we can, so essentially they are in there power band alot longer than we are, but i still think you would beat him

The Saleen would kill the rx8.

A co-worker of mine has a new one and I kept up with him to 70 mph. He had me by about 1 car length. I drive a 2.4 manual.

It's a driver's race, but with equal drivers I say that the SS has an advantage. I am pretty sure an RX-8 isn't getting 268 at the wheels, I would like to see a dyno. Most I have ever seen one at the wheels is 180-ish.

With a quarter time in 14.5 it isn't getting 268 at the wheels.

But it is still not anywhere near that much power at the wheels with a quarter time like that.

If the RX-8 does 14.4 how is that 1.2 seconds faster than a cobalt ss/sc? Most people get 14.5-ish. I've seen some cobalt/redlines get 14.0 stock.

Nuff said...

EDIT : And by the way, he said if you put about 900 into the car you only get about 6-8 hp

So if it was a modded RX-8, I would love to see it...

SSHANER.....I don't know where you're getting 268 WHP from? From all the stats I've seen, the two cars are roughly the same - drivers race (Manual).

RX-8 is a nicer car, but I don't know if it's much faster - at all - in a staight line
