Second Street Race Ever. Lost. 350Z. No Vid. Got Pics.
Starting to think I need some KROPS intervention. Too bad they're in California. http://krops.org/
I've seen this nice 350Z several times around my area of town. We've waved but never raced or talked. Today I'm at Sonic and he pulls up next to me. He asks what I've done to my car and I say it's stock (actually intake, dp and Trifecta). He says he has a turbo kit installed and is running 8psi. He says we should run them just for fun. After we eat we drive down to Mexico and find a 4 lane road with no other cars around. We raced four times. 40 roll I won by half a car. 40 roll I missed third and lost. 60 roll he won by a car. 60 roll he won by two cars.
I keep reading on here about SS/TCs beating everything but I'm wondering if some people on here aren't just blowing smoke. People on here say 350Zs are slow but this one was pretty fast.
Anyway, we pull over and talk and look at each other's car. His car is clean as hell. It has a Turbonetics turbo kit and a Greddy BOV that sounds awesome. His wheels were Volks. He told me about the turbo but I don't remember what size it was. Looked kind of big. I took a couple of pics of his car. Now we are friends. LOL. He told me about a large car group meeting next weekend so I'll see if I can get pics of some cool cars.

I wonder if a V6 with a big turbo would beat our 4cyl with a smaller turbo.. I wonder.. Hmmm
part of me is saying a boosted v6 should beat a boosted 4 Cyl
but the other part of me is saying that a bigger engine and a turbo twice the size as the cobalts should magically win

Whats sad is, he's running a v6 car that has been 'turbo'd' against a 2.0L stock turbo cobalt with a couple of bolt ons, and he lost.
Yes 350z's are slow. Those high reving 350's aren't too bad tho.

You were a good challenge for him maybe he knew of the lnf, may of got him more than once if it wasnt for driver mod. But i probably would of been cocky and gave him a dig lol skipped the turbo talk n got waxed haha prolly once

Really depends on what was done during the turbo install. There's only so much boost you can cram in to a stock compression ratio before detonation, and that may very well be the reason why he runs only 7 psi.
An example would be my LT1 -equipped fourth gen. I can make 400 hp easy N/A. Boosted, with just bolt ons - about 450 hp. I cant run much more than 8 psi, because I'm detonation limited with the stock compression, 'lest I run E85 or race gas. Any more an I punch a hole through my weak-sauce hyperteuctic pistons.
This is also why an LNF can run a turbo'ed 6 when properly set up - you can run far more close to raw.
I also agree though - a lot of "kill" stories are hype - or luck.

God that's such a beautiful car. Would own one now if it weren't for two things. 1. It really wouldn't be right throwing my 3 year old in the trunk 2. It's just not that quick for a pricey sportscar.
This one even has a turbo and can barely beat a mildly modded econocar.

I chalk it up as a loss. I'm not claiming it as a kill. Dude beat me 3 out of 4 times. He even had to shift more times. I think he was going into 5th when I was going from 3rd to 4th. I think if my car had a better driver and was maybe a bit faster it would consistently beat him. Hell, I don't even know how to brake boost and never have. In the 40 roll races I just punched it and had to shift to 3rd pretty quick. In the 60 roll races I just had it in 3rd and punched it. Overall I'd say he's a better driver and his car is a little faster. I don't think it even had a back seat. All I saw behind his headrests were giant speakers. Probably had a nice sound system. It was probably heavy too so if he removed it he'd be faster. LOL. I guess my next mod is an IC but doubt that will net any power. It'll just be piece of mind because it's stronger than the stocker. Hey, anyone know if I get the small ZZP IC if I'll need a tune tweak from Vince? Hmmm.

Really?! More people die from drunk drivers, people eating, and people on cell phones than from street racing. How about they try to stop some bigger threats. Always like to pick on the little guys.

my friend has a z and had the same turbo kit, the problem was the guy who installed it fucked all kinds of **** up and he was getting boost leaks and the plugs were not gapped right, he would hit like 5k and the car would almost die. He got it all fixed and that car could have been a drift car with all the torque he had. His main problem was traction.
