Smile So i went to the drag strip for the first time ever today...

NOTE: THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME AT THE DRAG STRIP IN MY FIRST CAR ON WINTER TIRES!!

Now that we have that clear, I'm 17 and own an 06 cobalt SS/SC. My brother invited me out to the drag strip at St.Thomas raceway. As soon as we got there he did a little walkthrough for me and we headed out. My first run i did a 14.601 @ 96.19 mph. After that i did a couple more runs, and it stayed around the 14.5-14.7 range which i was blown away by given the circumstances. Of course i did have a couple horrible 15 sec runs due to wheel hop and tire spin but everyone has their ups and downs. When the place was just about to close me, my brother and some guy that we met that lived 2h away from us were just chilling with the hoods open (too cool down) and looking at my engine, i noticed that the pulley on the supercharger looked small and had 4 blue bolts and said 77.9 on it. Than i remembered reading someone saying that 4 blue bolts on a pulley means its stage 2. I looked into it a little more and noticed the different injectors and now that i think of it, the car does rev a little higher than a normal cobalt ss. So thats how i found out that my car is stage 2. Now what im wondering is, if i keep driving it like a teenager, how much longer is it gonna last? Its currently at 180k km and running perfect, doesn't look beaten on at all. Also with proper summer tires, what can i expect it to run in the 1/4 mile?

Also if i think its worth it, ill post a video of the passes that i got on camera, i couldn't record 2 or 3 though because i accidently left the camera on when it started raining and it ran out of space by the time the weather passed and everything was cleaned up.

yes you have stage 2... the kit came with new injectors, smaller pulley, a belt and a tune. You should be hitting ~15PSI of boost, up from around ~12.5 stock.

Your redline is actually at 7k RPM... you are safe to rev it without any issues. I'm assuming you were shifting at 6.5k rpm.

I would definitely try and redline it when you get a chance to make sure it indeed has the 7k RPM... some people back in the day had their kits installed (even at the dealer) and never got the tune in. You can take some pics of the the engine bay and the pulley and im sure we can pinpoint some more things. Anything else done?

BTW, pretty decent times... mph is a bit low, but I'm sure with more practice those time can dramatically improve. Couple people on here hit mid 13s with just stage 2, intake and exhaust. Be careful with the wheel hop, you could snap an axle... get stage 2 rotated mounts from powell, ZZP or OTTP... I have them and never get wheel hop... and im making quite a bit more power then a stage 2 LSJ. If you're hopping a lot, ease off the gas.

Those are good times for your first run. I ran a 14.9 at 98 mph on my stock LNF

I went 14.2 stock but yeah its tough to get these things down a track so props. Dial it in, get some practice launching, next thing you know you got drag radials and a turbo...

I went to go get my summer tires on that morning but stupid Walmart (the only place that was open for a reasonable price) wouldn't put any of them on bc "not enough tread left"(there was 5/32 left on two of them and 4/32 on the other two. So i think they would have been good for another season. Also there were cracks in two of the tires but the other two were fine. If they just put the two good summers on the front i would haw been happy and bought a couple more later. I still really wanted to go racing though so i went anyway.

I think you spoke with my brother. They were there with a silver Mazdaspeed 6 but also with a blue SRT4, black Focus ST ( which ran a 14.3 100% stock), and a white Honda Civic.

What did the person look like? We live 2 hours away from that track and my brothers were there on Sunday, they pulled horrible times with the Speed

I could give you a few pointers as well, don't shift into 4th, it lowers your trap speed and et. What were you 60' times?

ill re-type everything with the 60ft times

15.01@95mph 2.39 60ft
15.81@93mph 2.82 60ft
15.90@85mph 2.73 60ft
14.64@97mph 2.2830 60ft
14.33@97mph 2.2830 60ft (same 60ft times, must have shifted differently after that)
14.48@96mph 2.30 60ft
14.43@99mph 2.48 60ft
14.60@96mph 2.41 60ft
14.70@97mph 2.43 60ft.

I dont know much but those times seem pretty close and i dont really see a connection, my brother said something along the lines of the smallest things in the first 60ft are huge by the time you get to the end of the track.

He's right. Work on the 60' and worry about the shifting later. Take your car to the limiter in every gear; 7000 RPM. Do NOT shift into 4th like you were. You should be trapping closer to 100 MPH with that being said.

We are thinking of going back up next Friday. We want to take our Dohc ZC hatch out there. Hopefully we net a mid 15 or maybe lower.

Dont shift early. Every shift takes up precious seconds. If you can get to the end of the track in 3 gears without running out of RPMs, do it.

I have to shift to 4th right before the end of the track. It sucks. Us LNF cobalts red line stops just at 6250.

My first series of runs in this car got me a 14.0 @ 104mph. I was excited. I ran a supercharged cobalt and it beat me, ran a 13.7-8 and it surprised me. It looked stock and it wasnt loud so im guessing stage 2?

Yeah, I have yet to take the 3.7 to the track. Most of my friends that have taken their rides to the track say it's a "humbling experience" if you don't go very often, just takes practice. That's the very reason why I haven't taken mine. Thinking it's a solid 13 sec ride, then me walk out of there with my 15 sec slip, haha!

I thought it was closer to 7k? The 3.7 is 6500ish stock, could have sworn my LNF sedan was the same?
