Ss/sc Vs. 2003-05 Wrx
This one kid I know just bought a wrx. I'm not sure what year it is, most likely newer, but he wants to race me. Before I go running my mouth, any opinions on who would win?

1st, don't run your mouth at all. Represent the cobalt community like it has been shown to me... as a community of pure enthusiasts that have no brand bias.
2nd, the last engine (2005) had a turbocharged 2.0L engine rated at 227... oh, and they're AWD and redline at 7000. Unless you've got a Stage2... pretty sure you will lose, but don't quote me on it. Unless he is a really really crappy driver (I raced an upgraded turbo'd wrx when I was stock and beat her... she shifted before redline everytime and everytime she shifted I pulled further... but I should have lost by a lot).

stock for stock you will loose out of a dig. On a roll, it will be close. The faster you go the more you will pull on them. They are to heavy and without the launch, they are not that fast. you can just tell. This site, http://fast-autos.net/vehicles/Subaru/2004/Impreza_WRX/ shows that the 0-60 time is 5.7 secs, and the 1/4 is 14.4 at 95mph. 95 trap speed is slow compared to the other stats.

race him. just make sure you dont spin at the line and make sure you hit every gear. i raced my buddies wrx 2 weeks ago. he had intake, exhaust, header. only thing i had was royal purple. he launched hard but as long as you hit your gears you'll pull around him on the top end. good luck

Driver's race. These cars are matched closely enough to make it interesting.
WRX's aren't slow off the line, but I'll repeat something I heard once that made me relax when I lined up with an AWD car. Those guys are relying on you thinking they're rockets off the line. Most drivers of AWD cars aren't good enough to properly launch them (as with every car, there's a way to do it, and a million ways not to). Just run him, focus on the launch and you'll probably surprise the hell out of him. It's a huge confidence booster the first time you leave an AWD at the line because you hooked and he didn't. After you hook, even if he's still ahead you'll begin to reel him in. Should be a good race either way.
They're 227 at the crank, 20% loss through the driveline puts them at 181 to the wheels. That's why the SS S/C starts gaining after it hooks, its stock HP rating is (at least) 205 to the wheels. Assuming both shift at redline, the SS S/C has more top end.

But, that's a technicality... otherwise, I agree with you. There are a lot of people who don't know how to launch the car, or don't like beating the crap out of their clutch from 5000rpm launches... and once the Cobalt has traction, it'll be pulling because it makes signficantly more power to the wheels.

A stock-ish pre-06 WRX isn't likely to "not hook." The only way you'll beat him off the line is if you actually hook, and he bogs... as in TOO much traction.

The '06+ WRX's are capable of high 13's, stock. That's not "slow" when we're comparing it to a nearly stock SS/SC. Even with the pre-06 WRX's, you're not going to put more than a few car lengths on one in the 1/4 unless you're a far superior driver.

your out of your damn mind if you think wrx's are slow. they dont have the greatest top end. but they are the number one quickest 07 4cyl. cars. dont play them out. they are unbelievable off road. and they're one of the nicest put together cars i've seen.(06's) now i raced one the other day like i posted above. he only launced at 3k rpm. i spun on the line like crazy because i was worried about launching with a AWD car. and i BARELY beat him. there not slow.

you'll SMOKE him trust me!!!! i beat one the same year as that wrx and he had full exhaust and i was stock AND new to stick....your best bet is to take him from a roll on the highway ftw!!!!!

my advice. race the kid. make sure you dont spin alot. try to take off without spinning and then get on the throttle when its safe. around like 5k. after that hit every gear as good as you can and you'll be in good shape. i launch my cobalt at 2k and dont really get on it to heavily till about 4-5k. i barly spun. then i pulled right around him.
i like tha fact that you want to embarass the wrx on the highway. but if you brag about beating a wrx on the highway your a cowerd. thats like a damn lion chasing a puppy. his best bet to race him from a dig. that way IF he WINS he has all the draging rights in the world. come on dude. dont put cobalts in the dirt like that. if ones on the highway. race him but dont take one that you wanna race on there. thats just pathetic

Rev launch on the wrx's are around 5,000 rpm. My friend owns one and took me for a spin. Dropped it from around 5,000 and i swear we hit 0-60 in about 4 seconds. All depends on the driver
