SS/TC GMS1 vs RX8 w/borla catback and ?

Cliff notes: SS/TC GMS1 sedan put a hurt on an RX8.

On the way home today i was paced by an RX8. lowered, borla catback(saw his huge sticker) and tow hook. unsure of other mods. young guy driving with the seat slumped back, sideways hat, designer sunglasses ... the whole "look at me" works. i moved to slow lane and let him by then switched back behind him. i heard him downshift and his revs picked up.. waited for him to start to go and went to third and got on it.

i don't know what to say buy wow... the SI i raced a month ago was faster. i had to back off the throttle twice in 4th gear to stop myself from going through his rear bumper and even had to grab 5th just to give him a chance and i still pulled on him hard and had to back off again.

only explanation i can think of for it being so slow was maybe he didn't gear down enough underestimating my TC.

not an amazing OMFG kill by any means but just thought i'd share.

I hate morons that don't understand every car was not built for straight line racing. When I had my rx8 I only took the highway if I needed to get somewhere in a hurry like work or school, any other time it was all back roads. That car handled like no other, granted it makes no torque but it was fun to drive because it revs so high. I kinda miss mine, but you shouldn't even have wasted gas on rx8s and civic si's

The cobalt ss wasn't made for straight line racing either, but you still have a point haha. I was considering buying an rx8 instead of my tc last year.

rx8s are competition for a stock LSJ with about 100k miles. haha they are like a 14.5 1/4 car 0-60 in maybe 6.3-6.5 or so.

but seriously, that car sucks, if you are going to have no torque, at least get good gas mileage! I hate the way they sound!!!! But seeing Jeremy Clarkson throw that thing around the track on top gear! saying it was the easiest RWD car hed driven at its limits thats wild.

They are like turboed hondas. They rev to half a million rpms but have no torque whatsoever

Not all of them lol ones done right, yes but you don't see those all that often. Ones modded by ricers, not so much. May make decent horsepower but only about as much torque as a stock LSJ

I see your point, but it's not a waste of gas IMO when there are tools driving them thinking they can beat a "slow pos Cobalt".

I think RX8's aren't only slow, but ugly.
I'd take the last year RX7 TT any day over an RX8.
I think Mazda was on the right track with the RX7 TT before the abomination known as the RX8 replaced it.

I was leanin towards an rx8 before prchasing my SS/TC. The gas mileage was the #1 throw off. And the oil burning of the rotary engine was #2.

I had an RX-8 GLUED to my bumper in some twistes and I was pushing my car hard. I was impressed... Until we hit open road and I put a bus on him real fast. I wasnt expecting to lose straight line but was surprised by the handling it had.
