stage 2 vs 04 evo viiiw/intake +bov

alright... so... i was going on my lunch break and i saw an evo in the parking lot with the owner walking to and from his car to help a friend with his car(it was done whatever the problem was when i walked over there) and i asked if the evo was his and if he wanted to run. he responded by saying "well i've already beat a couple of those" so i told him my mods and he still thought nothing of it. found out it was an 04 and all he had done was an intake and bov and agreed to race, he had a friend in his car and mine was only occupied by myself and my tv dinner lunch, we went on to 222 and slowed down to a 40mph roll and i basically handed him his ass. twice. the second time i made sure i heard the turbo spool before i punched it and i still put at least 4 car lengths on him. it was great fun, this being my 2nd race with an evo i had to see if the first one was just some crazy luck and apparently they aren't as fast as i thought. at least not from a roll. unfortunatly i dont have a video but it was a spurr of the moment thing and i thought ppl should know, anyone with stage 2 and some bolt-ons does not need to fear 03-04 evo's from a roll. i'm not quite as excited as i was the 1st time i raced one(with 2 ppl in my car) but i am even more happy with owning a cobalt now than i ever was. no flukes. just fun!

i dont understand the question? i mean, i absolutly walked away at the top of 2nd gear and 3rd gear, towards the end 4 gear it seemed like i wasnt pulling anymore, or maybe he was even catching up but very very slowly, and at that speed there is no need to continue racing you can take one by an easy 3 car lengths. like fitting 3 cobalts between our cars at the top of 3rd gear

we deff do(get an cobalt handing an evo its ass), unfortunatly i dont even have a video camera. the guy said he had a magnaflow turbo-back (he said header-back which i found wierd for a turbocharged car) at his house he was gonna install today untill he had to help his friend out. i think all he needs is to put that exhaust on and get a reflash and he wont have to be bitchslapped by a $26,000 car including the price of mods

to be honest instantly after getting my stage 2 i was a little dissappointed, i guess i had really high hopes for some extra low end torque, but i think the 2.8 helps alot with the low end. but even though the car doesnt feel incredibly faster, it still is faster. the torque is what you feel and the hp is what you see(i.e. a lightly modded evo falling behind you)

Hell ya it does but you must get the 2.8 pulley to add the extra kick in the pants.

Same here... Right after getting Stage 2 installed I couldn't tell a huge difference just by feel. But then I raced a few modded SRT-4s who used to leave me in their dust and now I was walking them - I realized that Stage 2 made a HUGE difference

Why oh why do people buy such stupid mods for EVOs? BOV and intake take away power...

Good kill though

Don't be cocky about racing EVOs from a roll. A bolt-on one with good bolt-ons (TBE, METH, flash) would give you a good run. Even an 03-04 sinc a lot of the smarter owners replace the smaller hotside.

+1.. Intake not properly tuned will rob you of hp. Plus the BOV that VTA's? Bwhaha, next time ask him if he has idle issues or stumbling problems...

As for modding Evo's, I have TBE w/ HFC. cams, & Flash on my VIII. I'm around 330whp on a Dynojet... A IX with just the TBE and flash will put out the same power. So be careful out there...

what year are the srt-4s, because i have a hard time believing that you are walking modded ones, because I have a stage 2, and raced an 04 with cat-back and it was a battle back an forth through the entire race unless my clutch is going bad this was from a roll starting in second

The one I really walked on was an '04 SRT-4 with Mopar Stage 1, Borla cat back, Magnecore 8.5mm wires, Prothane Motor mount inserts (race), Mopar STS and Mopar BOV. Our first race was from an 80km/h roll and I got a bit of a jump on the third beep. I pulled at least two cars on him and was able to switch lanes and get infront of him before having to shut down. The second race was again from 80km/h, this time I let him get a bit of a jump and I was able to pull my back bumper to his front by 180km/h. We shut that one down early because we were coming up on a hill and couldn't see what was beyond. The first race was to well over 210km/h (that's what I saw when I looked as we were slowing down)

The other modded SRT-4 I was referring to was much more heavily modded. I'm not 100% sure of his mods but I know he's got Stage 1, 3" exhaust, no cat and has run 12.86 on slicks. I played around with him back when I was stock and he completely left me in the dust - I'm talking bus lengths. The day after I got Stage 2 installed we went out to play around. First we ran from a 60km/h roll (sweet spot for SS/SC). I pulled instantly where his front bumper was at my back bumper. Once he spooled he came flying by but only to where his back bumper was at my side door where he had to shift. I made back a couple of feet and it stayed like that for a very short time until we had to SLAM on our brakes to avoid traffic. After that we went to a secluded industrial area and ran from a dig. I held the engine at 1500rpm and he held his at ?. A third car honked out the three beeps and we were off. We both launched the same, we were neck and neck through first and most of second. By the top of second he was starting to pull but then he missed 3rd and I got the lead. By the top of 3rd he had caught back up and was gaining and I shut down. We were doing 180km/h in a 60km/h road and I didn't have the ***** to keep going. Now obviously I know his car is MUCH faster than mine. I know I wouldn't run anywhere near 12s with slicks, BUT going from losing by buslengths to running with him really showed me how much of a HUGE difference stage 2 makes.

my stage 2 brought me from 14.3 @ 99.82 to 13.78 @ 102.80 at the track. I'm getting the 2.8" put on later today and I'll make sure I let you all know what the difference is the next time I get to the track. I hope it makes 1st gear a little more torquey. Last time I was there I was under 13.99 obviously and they disqualified me during the cash bash for no helmet....so now I gotta buy a frickin helmet to race. DAM!
