Thanksgiving run: Muscle Wagon vs SS/SC
I was cruisin Hwy 16 this mornin at about 9:00... on my way to see the family... wasn't expecting anything to happen... definately wasn't expecting this...
I'm in the slow lane doin about 50... I notice a car weaving through traffic behind me, kinda hard to pick out. So I slow down a bit and let him come up beside me... some kinda 80's Chevy station wagon, dunno if they were called caprice's back then or what. It was two toned, burgundy top and cream bottom, wierd... sporting a hood with a huge cowl, skinny tires up front and fat ones in the back. Obviously somebody's got the weekend drag car out for a little run.
So I decided to play a little and see if this thing was all looks or what. I hung right beside him for about a mile... I guess he finally got the message. He downshifted and pulled ahead... followed closely by a cloud of smoke from the dual exhaust. I dropped to 2nd and hit it hard, then slapped it into 3rd as I drove by doing 70. I heard him lay into it as I went past, so I didn't let off. He hung right with me all the way to 100, where I got out of it. Needless to say I was decently impressed.
Don't know anything else about the car... the guy turned onto a side street before we hit the next light... maybe I'll see him at the track next time I go.
Anyone know anything about late model V8 drag cars? Typical setups they run? It's not exactly my area of expertise.

350 is most common. Pretty cheap to get good power out of it. So it's the most likely canidate.

Could be anything, my buddy just restored an old 81 V-6 Chevy Malibu station wagon. He threw in a 350 bored 60 over with a nice cam and 4 barrel. He finished it off with a 4" cowl hood, tourque thrust D's, and a monochrome black paint job with red scallops. The thing is badass.
