hey guys my friend has been buggin me to race him in his 04 3.8 mustang(5 speed). He has a flowmaster exhaust and a k and n intake (or just the filter not sure). He says it should have about 210 hp.

I have an 06 2.4 5 speed just a k and n filter. think i can take him?

FWIW,

An '04 3.8L/3.9L V6 Mustang 5-speed is capable of as good as low 15's with good driving... more likely mid-15's or even high 15's.

From the numbers I've seen for 2.4's, it's a driver's race.

Back in the day I had a 1996 3.8 mustang. Best I could do was a 16.4. That thing was a turd from hell and a POS.

And the new 4.0's are even faster, capable of high 14's stock.

A huge world of difference between the 96 and 04 v6's, and even more of a difference compared to the 4.0's.

The single-port 3.8's (94-98) can't really be compared to a split port (99-04) 3.8, let alone an '05+.


I think they're CAPABLE of it, too... but even on the 4.0 V6 websites, I couldn't find someone to point me to one that's done it. On the other hand, Evan Smith of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords went 14.94. The biggest difference is between the autos, not quite as much in the manuals.

Besides the safety and legality aspects (which are most important), you also get MUCH more information and clarification of what ACTUALLY happened. If someone says the other started early, you can prove it. If someone claims they got a bad launch, you can prove it OR disprove it. The list goes on.
