why do g6 gtp's think they are fast?
#26
I think most people need to get to the drag strip more often...
14s are toyota camry territory
13s are getting ok but alot of stock vehicles do this
12s youre moving decent and still in stock territory for a number of stock cars
11s thats a pretty quick street car
10s Now your quick
9s Woo hoo
8s you have too much $$
7s you have waaayy too much money
6s its not your money.. what do you care
5s yeah youre a big shot..
4s Nitromethane FTW
3s hmm now this is cobalt ss territory!!! (i knew they were fast)

Let me just say that I think G6's are ugly as hell. G6 GXP's the ugliest thing I've ever seen come from GM. Ever. That grille is just....HUUUUUGE!

jeez, that sounds like kind of a rip-off: less performance for 4k more. But I guess luxury is more important to some people...

wow.. if i could afford the car payment and insurance i would have never bought my g5 haha
i went to the dealer to buy the g6 gtp lol
but cuz im younger and insurance is gay, i had to stick it out with a cheaper car.
i've driven the gtp a few times and for a big heavy car it can move and it handles exceptionally well.. ohh.. and i love how you can lower the seat so it feels like your pretty much sitting on the floor. its great. good car.
specially for an n/a, wait til someone boosts the crap outa that thing and you guys wont think you're that fast anymore

The G6 GTP is pretty quick. With the 6 speed Manual only though. The standard Auto that is on 90% of them is doggish. With the 6-speed, it kept up with my stock Grand Prix GTP, which is fast in it's own right. Their 0-60 is ~6.6 secs with the manual. The problem is that there is only intake and exhaust for mods, and noone really tunes them with HPTuners, thought it is possible to do so.
The New GXP will be moving 0-60 in a hair over 6 secs, much like the SS/SC. And the 3.6L has more mods out there thanks to the CTS market.

I think they're currently throwing that 3.6L in the '07 GTP's, along with a 6-speed auto.

I think that has got to be the tightest 6-speed shifter I have ever driven. Feels like you barely move the thing.

Agreed. The 3.9L is the base engine. The 3.6L outperforms it easily and has an extra 30-40 hp.
While this may be true, the bottom 2/3 of that list are not daily drivers nor can they be had without dumping serious cash. Although some are ignorant to what a truly fast car is, I think he was speaking about the Cobalt in reference to other cars in our class/ price range. At least that's how I would compare the performance of the SS/SC. Another way to look at it is by comparing your car to every other car on the road. There are probably only 5% of total cars in US/Canada that can make even 12s. So if you compare the Cobalt to every other car on the road, I'd say it's faster than maybe 70%-80% of them? Whereas say a H2 may only be faster than 5%-10% of all the cars on the road. So in that context, yes, the SS/SC is a fast car IMO.

well i work for a pontiac dealer and I was confused bc the vert does have the 3.9 when you get the sport package. I just assumed that that meant the GTP had it also.... and the 06 GTP's did have them lol.

3.9L was GTP motor for 2006 only. In 2007 the GT came with a 3.5L standard, with an optional 3.9L sport package. No REAL GTP for 2007 yet.
Pontiac Shuffles it's motors around from time to time.
Remember the Grand Prixs? They used to have a 3.1L stock, 3.8L GT, 3.8L S/C GTP, and then they switched to a 3.8L Base, 3.8L GT, 3.8L S/C GTP, and then they switched to the 3.8L Base, 3.8L S/C GT, NO GTP, 5.3L GXP.
You have to follow pontiac's motor choices to keep up with them. They can trick you. And they also usually produce different (not always more desireable) HP than their Chevy counterparts.
Example: 2006 Impala 211hp, 2006 G6 205hp (Poor intake design because car was designed for a different engine to begin with so intake wraps around engine bay on G6, and is more short ram and intentional in the Impala. As a result of using "back-up" engines in the G6, they have suffered a little in performance.
They also screwed the G6 convertible by throwing on a hydraulic powersteering system (possibly to support the hardtop hydraulically?) which sucked major power out of it's motors (~15hp) and the 3.9L still guzzles gas like a GTO but is so restricted in the convertible that it only produces the HP of the 3.5L VVT V6 from the 2007 V6 Base.
