I must step in here, A HP rating DOES NOTHING to make a car not street legal. About 6 years ago there was a guy out in the mid west I believe it was running a twin turboed, multi port fuel injected Pontiac 400 in a 1961 Bonniville and it ran the 1/4 in the low 7 sec range on pump gas and the car was tagged and driven on the strret almost daily! It put down almost 2000 hp AT the rear wheels!
For those who have never seen such high HP street driven cars might I recomend a quick trip to the store to check out a few issues of Hot Rod, Popular Hotrodding, or perhapps Car Craft since apparently there's a WORLD of go fast your missing out on.

Laws regarding a car being "streetlegal" is relaxed on collectors, meaning over 25 years old.
In wisconsin, where I am from, you also have to have:
1) The safety features still in the car that it came with, meaning if it had airbags, the airbags must still be in the car and operational, along with seat belts.
2) DOT approved tires with rain channels.
3) A working horn
4) Meet Noise Decibile levels.

I felt I should also mention, he had to inspect his car due to the heat produced after every "daily jount" (which consists of about 8 miles) for several hours to make sure nothing broke.
Your buddy must have a hell of a car that he didn't want anybody to know about if it cut low 7's and could be driven reliabley every single day.

Because the GTO guys are so sensitive of their "weenkie" that they have to prove their V8 powered RWD 400 hp car is faster and superior to our 30 mpg 4 cylinder car!
Okay back to your bickering!

I'd wager the car he's talking about doesn't meet NHRA safety standards, and thus, after one run at any track, they don't let him back. There are a lot of fast cars out there that don't have properly certified roll cages, etc, and thus, don't bother trying to get much recognition.

You guys think its funny to talk down to the Cobalts but when someone talks down on you guys it's "immature this" and "typical" that! You guys need to get some thicker skin, damn! All the BS we take from you and one or two comments get ya all bent outta' shape!

Pretty sure it's us that have to prove we can hang with them...look at their numbers. The proof is already on their side man

I agree and understand. You have to consider:
Laws regarding a car being "streetlegal" is relaxed on collectors, meaning over 25 years old.

2) DOT approved tires with rain channels.
3) A working horn
4) Meet Noise Decibile levels.
You should tell that guy to call up guiness book of records. Because to date...The fastest street legal car is a 7.8 second QM car owned by Andy Frost. Its an 800 ci motor putting out 2500hp. So your friend running low 7's can be in the guiness book of world records!!!

Oh no not my buddy! He was in Hot Rod a few years back, I thought I said that. Sorry for any confussion. And those times were helpped with a 3 stage NOS set up if memory serves correctly.
In WI you can get Hobbiest plates, also with more lax restrictions at 20 years. People tend to forget that windshield wipers are considered a safety feature, too.

Actualy no it was NHRA certified and the guy ran it all the time, like I said it was a feture car in HOT ROD mag a few years ago. If I can find a link I'll post it for you guys, but the car was SICK!
