z24s...and my SS

somebody needs to alert the jbody group that the cobalts are not the same animal as they are driving! i cant get over how many z24s try to mess with me. does anybody else have this problem? i mean these are not moded zs, just kids and a few older people wanting to "showoff" in their z. i tell u, it isnt worht the time. i ve had one kid try to beat me 3 times, i keep meeting him in another town same time of night as i go to work, dont know if its random or if hes waiting on me. anyway, just thought it was funny at first, but now its just not any fun i guess.... please dont flame back that u or somebody u know has a 10 sec z, cause im not talking about those cars! just my thoughts......

Stock Z24 = 16 s 1/4 mi vs Stock SS/SC = 14.8 s 1/4 mi. That's gotta be at least 3 or 4 car lengths don't you think???

oh, i think maybe 12 or 13, its hard to tell with the big whale tail back there, and going like a floged dog . but my point is, unless i dont race these fools, they just hang around trying to show off. its really not worth the time or gas to mess with. but God how i love my SS!!!!

I know, the best thing about this car is that no one really seems to know whats under the hood. I am also starting to find out its also one of the worst things too as you get all sorts of ricer fly by's...

old meets new? I could see a few people trying to run you to see how the car runs & sounds...being that the z24 was the performance (compared to civics) cav and the SS is the performance cobalt...But if some think they will win...do the normal 3 honks...floor it up to 4K and put it in 5th and drive normally.(you'll still probably be ahead anyway)

Hmmmmm, My 1993 Z24 has ran a best of 15.89 and my girlfriends 1996 2.2 Sunfire ran a 17.91

Shouldn't a 2.4 Z24 be able to run better than 16's? From a dig I have been beat by 2 Z24's in my Cavalier.

And a 2.4 Z24 would wipe the floor with a Celica light to light.

No, a celica GT-S will kill any cavalier. That is a low 15's car. 180HP vs 150HP is a huge difference.

Anyway, I had a Z24 try to race me too, RICE OUT! huge wing, and altezza's.

Anyway, even with the 2.4L SS it isn't even a contest.

the z24 will beat the celica off the line with the toque then the celica's lift kicks in and the z is in the rear view mirror

just gotta watch out for some of those Z's though, some of them are SC or Turbo'ed. They will about the same as a SC SS.

My 01 Z24 5speed ran a 15.6 stock which is average for that year, make, model. When I was done with it the best time I had was a 13.8 with the GM Supercharger kit at 7psi. I know of a few others to watch out for to.

My 2.4 5spd z24 will out launch my SS any day of the week. However; after I shift out of third at about 80 im done completely. And the SS should pass it somewhere around 40. But I wouldnt go bragging to any 2.4s at a red light if its going to be stop light to stop light. Your going to look stupid.

2.2 Zs are a completely different story.(While they are stock)

I like it when people roll up next to me with Z24s. theirs a couple of them in my subdivision, ive beten all of them at least 2 times. it seems like they are gonna race me till i mess up and skip a gear or somthing. but all in all i think its fun when people dick around and try to beat my ss/sc with a cavie with a muffler.

I had a problem with ricers blowing past be when I had less than 100 miles on my SS S/C. Since then I haven't had any one challenge me except one 2001 Lightning (damn automatics have no lag between gears!!!) and a 2004 or 2005 Ram Quad cab with a tuned Cummins. I don't know what happened. I almost wonder if they got the memo that Chevy meant business when they designed this car.

Funny you mention this.So far, I get the most BS from the JBody crowd and the most accpetance in the Honda / VW circles.... Unreal, who would have known. I had a ******** this morning give me the flyby on a residential street in a Z24 while I was headed to the grocery store. This guy totally gives me the rip by, and then , when were rolling up to the intersection, he comes up on my right to turn off, looks at my front wheel and give the shun. Then he farts off down a long straight counry road. I decided to have some fun and take the scenic route home myself. Anthow with visibilitty being kM's I pulled up beside him, and he gives me the finger and actually point straight a ahead and gives me the three honks ! What a stupid *****, he has no idea.....It was over really quick. 2 pulls, and he just backed right off. Lots of fun.

What 2.2 Z24?

And a Z24 running a 15.6 will be right beside a GT-S. 150HP and 150FtLbs will easily keep up with 180HP and 70FtLbs.

96-02 Z24's all had the 2.4 in the US , average times are mid 15's for the 5spd and mid to low 16's for the autos

the 02-05 LS SPORTS(us model , and Z24 canada model)2.2 eco tec , ran close to the same times as the 2.4

ive ran a best os 15.46 @ 91 in my g/fs 02 eco 5spd , and a friend of mine has ran the best of 15.01 @ 93 in his 02 Z24 sedan 5spd with intake and mounts

and my best n/a in my 2.4 auto sedan was a 16.0 , and now with my s/c ive run the best of 14.88 @ 92 in the 95+ degree night time temp , on a motor and trans with over 100,000

and right now im almost finished collecting stuff to put the 2.0 s/c on my g/fs cav , and 1 guy i know that is still playing and tuning his , with stock exhaust(1 7/8") has ran low 14's , and dyno'd at close to 220

most of know all about the cobalts , and will play just to have some fun , but like any car group , some owners are complete DILL WEEDS , with the ricer mindset

well...i am glad im not the only one having the fly by and challange by z24s. its ammusing to read all the posts cause thats the exact thing i was talking about. i had a 87 z24 back in 89.... but that was back in the day...ha ha...it had a chip and larger fuel injectors... i ran it to a top speed of 135...and it felt like it was coming off the ground, very shaky unstable! not like the ss/sc...ive run it to 135 and its glass smooth, but u all know that. sure did have fun with that Z24, broke all the motor mounts on the engine, i got married and had a child, wife made me get rid of it for a four dour! this SS cobalt has been a long time coming for me, and worth the wait!!!

Cavaliers are always tryng to mess with me, even the really fast ones that keep winter tires & steelies on year around with nice and shiny tire shine on them tires.

I don't bother anymore since this thing eats gas when you punch it.

Thumbs up

my 99 Z24 runs a 15.5, nothing too impressive, just enough to have a little fun with. i have yet to race a SS/SC, but if i ever pull up next to one im going to try to. its not because i think i can win by anymeans, but its cuz i'd love to hear the sound of that sweet ass s/c engine kicking my ass, i'll even give him one of these at the next light. so dont think that everyone is raceing you because they think they can win, they just want to see how much you kick their ass, ty
