For those whose stock wheels are chipping...

We've heard this time and time again, thread after thread, problems with our Stock wheels chipping....here is a good solution to those who want to keep your stock wheels:

As some of you may already know, I used to work at a Chevy Dealership, and they told me I had 2 options:

1. I get to keep the same wheels that I have on now, but get them re-finished with the same gunmetal finish I have on now, but most likely they will chip again

2. Get the new polished look that the 07's are sporting but have brand new wheels


For those of you who have not read the previous thread on this, here it is...

Nothing against the Balts that have the polished look, I just prefer the gunmetal look, especially with the Silver...I am still under my warranty so therefore I am going to use it to my advantage and just get my wheels re-finished.

Ahh the perks of knowing people in the business. This company called Keystone (in PA), specializes (sp) in wheels (powder-coating, chrome, re-finishing, you name it, they do it) and they do excellent work. I was shown a HRE racing wheel with a gunmetal chrome finish to it, and it completely sold me! It is very similiar to the gunmetal finish we have on our stock wheels, but it has more of a mirror finish to it (duh, its chrome) but not quite as dark as black chrome. I talked to Rick over at Keystone, and he has sent out new wheels for me today and I should receive them in about 10 days. I will post pictures when I receive the wheels. But this is an excellent solution to our problem and its an excellent finish on the wheel...should look sharp on the Silver! Supposedly the way the finish AND clear coat are produced on this wheel is SUPPOSED to hold up much stronger and be chip resistant compared to the way our stock wheels finish was created. We shall see...like I said, I will post pics as soon as I get the new wheels mounted!! Some of you may want to consider this (if you like the new finish, that is) for those of you who want to keep your stock wheels and just aren't feeling the 'swiss cheese' look of the chipping wheels, I call it!

The only thing you must do, is get permission from your dealership...from there I give you Rick from Keystone Automotive's direct #, and he does all the leg work for you...you will have a brand new set, and no more chipping!!

those look awsome!!!I'm powder coating mine gun metal grey in the spring.great choice on powder coating it will hold up real well,On my last car I had powder coated gun metal black and drove them during two winters and nothing happened to them.

I was just talking to Jeff about this...I was told that it cost the dealership $1308 to be exact WITH their discount...but obviously if yous have problems chipping on your stockers, this coating can be done at N/C and that is the ONLY reason I have them...otherwise thats $$ that can be put towards aftermarket rims!

yea...it was a warranty issue for me...my wheels started chipping with only a couple thousand miles on it...dealership I used to work at, the service manager at the time told me to wait till my warranty was almost up and they would replace my wheels once for me...I know friends in the business, so the company that did my wheels talked to the dealership and covered it under warranty...I can perhaps do this for yous who are also having the same problem, as long as the dealership is willing to replace your wheels. Id love to help this company out, they do excellent work. They have my old set of wheels now and coating them as we speak. They hope to do business for us Balts!

In my opinion, its a great option for those who dont know what aftermarket rims they want yet, or dont quite have the money for them yet as welll. Ask anyone who saw them in person this past weekend, its as if they change color, from far away they look like black chrome, and as you get closer they get lighter. I want to take pics next to a Balt with chrome/polished wheels to show the difference..I didnt realize how big of a difference until I parked next to my brothers Camaro who has chrome on his.

I found out that Keystone charged the dealership more for the wheels since it was a warranty issue...

for those looking into these wheels as a NON-WARRANTY INQUIERY:

$165/per wheel....also...on the pics above, I do not have my centercaps coated...this is an option, I'm having them done as we speak...if you want this done, you will need to let the company know as well, otherwise you will get what I have ^ above.

Anyone interested either way, PM me and I will let you know how to get this done.

 

Guess ill be getting my stockers done then.....I will post an up close pic of cheryl's rim when i get off of work

Most definately am interested in this option. As for powder coated wheels, they hold up very well. All of the package cars, tractors and trailers in our UPS Fleet utilize powder coating. We used to paint the wheels at every maintenance inspection and need not any longer.

My wheels seem to be fine its my damn paint that's chipping =(

 

Wish I could have made it also but had some family business to attend to not to mention some work I needed to do following our Corporate Meeting in Atlanta.

That looks very similar to the optional SBC finish on the Enkei wheels . It looks really good .....excellent idea
