What tire size "looks" better

Correct. stock 215/45 are 8.46" wide and side wall (45%) is 3.80" tall Now 235/40's are 9.25" wide and side wall (40%) is 3.70" tall. So the numbers say it will fit. Id still like to see a close up of 235/40/18's and the fender.

Im just torn on the 2 sizes. According to the tire sizing link I posted the 235's are only an 1" wider. If you divide that by 2 its then a 1/2" per side of each tire. The overall diameter and height is smaller. So according to the numbers I understand that the shouldnt rub. But any rub to me is not good. On my 04GTO tire/strut rub is the norm from the factory. And I hate it. (exwife drives that car).
Hey Kanowitz could you take a closer pic of the tire/fender to see the gap?

These are some brighter pics, but I'll try an snap a close up tomorrow after work for you.

the 215 will be the lower profile if that's what your asking. the sidewall height is a % like stated above so wider tire means taller sidewall even on the same number
and i have 235/40/18s and they do rub on H&Rs... I've herd similar stories with other springs as well so if you hate rub then 235 isn't the way to go. 225 is the widest that's recommended for our cars

215's are 3.80" tall, 235's are 3.70" tall. 100 thousands smaller than the stock. I think where folks are getting the rub is under braking/hard turning on the rear portion of the fender skirt.
Im still debating.

lets put it this way. i have 235/40/18 nittos and my fenders are rolled... the kicker is i never rolled them and bought the car off the lot.
i dont think height is the issues its the width. skinner tires can go into the wheel well. wider ones hit

Anyone have close up pics of an SS lowered on sportlines with 225/40/18's. They are a little smaller than the stockers in diameter and circumference and throw the speedo off 1.2 mph. Just want to see how thay look. I have given up on the 235's and that leaves me 225/45's or 225/40's.

Those look good BM, but Id like to see a close up of a Balt rolling on 225/40/18's and lowered. As I said in my above post the 225/40/18's are a little smaller than stock in heigth and diameter. Which one apperance wise means more fender gap, even lowered (possably) and the smaller tire means speedo will be off. I know on this thread- https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/wheels-tires-96/tire-question-120442/
and post #4 is a pic of a Balt on 225/45/18's lowered and it looks good, but Id also like to see some 225/40's lowered.
Here you go guy's. A Balt TC, they come stock with 225/40/18's. First pic is stock, and rest are lowered on Sportlines.

I think I just found my set up. Fender gap looks good and Im sure with the decreased side wall and lowering, the handling will be greatly improved. Now I just need my pay check!
