this ^^^ whining Devil is on it, and Mavens postis correct.
I run 245's on 9.5 wide wheels and its a lot of tire if you dont track your car. and much more expensive compared to 235

Maven and John in the same thread on CSS wow!

But Id listen to both of these guys!

Ive ran 235s on my SS/tc and liked them a lot. I am dropping down to 225's on the tc's due to availability. But like I said I ran 255's (9 inch wide wheels) on my cobalt and while it honestly felt great at highway speeds, I agree with maven its a bit much for a street driven cobalt. Not to mention I noticed a loss of gas mileage (another reason im going back to my ss/tcs with 225's).

Wider isnt always better.

Those 245/40s DESTROYED my gas mileage compared to my 215/45s Like 4-6mpg worse!

The 255's on the 9" wide rim did the same to me. im back on 225/40/18 on the stock ss/tc wheels now. So much better. The car isnt as settled on the highway but gas mileage is back!

I'm running a 235/40-18 on an 18 x 8 wheel, dropped eibach/koni combo and I love it... 245's would actually hurt you...

a 255/35 is the exact ratio of stock 225/40, so a 245/40 is much taller and wider, which will throw off the speedo and acceleration...i wanna run a 245/35, but the overall ratio is slightly smaller, which will change the gearing...

So, let's just say for hooking up a launch would 255/35 be better than 245/40? But more pricey? Sorry if it's a newb question I am not really well versed on tire specs.

Or would the 225/40 stock size work fine with the right tires? Or even 235/40? Like Say dunlop Z1's for instance.
