H/E Bracket Fail

today was driving to leave my sub and i hit a bump and the next thing i hear is something under my hood hit the ground..so i pull over and look under my car and here is the one side of my H/E on the ground i ended up pushing up and drove back to my house, jacked my car up and come to find out the metal piece on top with the 2 brackets the weld broke on it and the h/e was being held on by my front bumper ... took it off my car and well from the bump it tweaked it and cracked so its useless now...just a look out to everyone check those 2 brackets on top cause they dont hold that well.

The top brackets are not meant to hold the HE up. Post some pics, sounds like it was installed wrong unless I'm not understanding you correctly.

I have 2 clips on my front lip... not sure why they are there or what they are for, but I am assuming an am h/e rests on these and the top brackets just secures it?

Idk which h/e i have but it takes up all the room you have to put one in. It's a uber tight fit for my car, and the damn drain plug hangs lower than my front lip a lil so any bump i go like 3 mhp over

Did you not secure it to the bumper support with those two upright tabs? It seems very weird that that weld would fail and the two upward tabs would be unaffected.

Seriously? Those tabs are there for a reason... Full of fluid, the H/E gets extremely heavy and then add in vibrational input from driving around and you've got yourself a fatigue crack waiting to happen, and it almost always does so at the start or termination of a weld.

Have fun buying your new H/E... And make sure your friends are all aware that if they don't use the bumper support tabs that they'll end up with a H/E dragging on the ground too.

dude, this was your fail. You should have used all of the brackets provided on the product.

you think ZZP would weld 4 brackets on if you only need to use 2 of them?

LOL @ cudajoe

The Red Line model only has horizontal brackets, but mine are holding up just fine.

The outer two tabs that you did not use are welded to the HE and meant to hold the majority of the weight. I'm pretty baffled by someone using 2 of 4 brackets, saying the product broke and therefore it sucks???

the center piece is held on by epoxy and can be repaired FWIW.

the OTT HE is like our S1 and S2 units. They are made in China out of bar stock and air/air cores. All welded together. That's why their sturdy but so heavy. The problem is that they are not efficient and they don't even divide the two sides to internally cold and hot water mix together w/o even going through the HE. Not really comparable in performance to the ZZP S3 HE.

This is false info. Our old unit used an air/air core, but it was divided inside. Our new unit uses a standard 2.5" water/air core and is also divided internally. It also has end tanks made out of sheet metal instead of bar stock. The whole unit weighs 8.4lbs.

I have your core here and I don't think you've cut it open. We have. I'll post pics and see what you have to say about it.

I do appreciate you admitting these things about your old core though.

The OTT HE is definitely not made of sheet metal and your core is not properly divided.

Zoomer, they have recently released a new core. It is indeed an air to water core like your stage 3. I just installed it on a friends Red Line. It definitely has sheet metal end tanks, but I didn't cut it open to see how it's divided.

Just wanted to throw that out there.

Josh, the new H/E looks good from what I can tell.

I have had mine on for awhile and no issues I just used the supplied hardware and just remember they said some mechanical knowledge required. Just have to use your head sometimes.

Always, you never want to half-ass a performance install. That is bad mojo.
