Hopefully. I have been lurking around the questions about exhaust systems and trying to answer, and then at the same time explain the benefits of a Header/DP combo.. which coincidentally is being offered right now by ZZP. Lol

Definitely true. Think of it like this. Hold your nose and try breathing through a drinking straw. This is like most stock car exhausts. The drinking straw is very small and very restrictive. Now, run a lap and try breathing through the straw. You thought breathing through it regularly was tough. It's definitely impossible after running. Your body's demand for air is like having boost. Now, you have a 2.2l engine that isn't boosted. Go find a piece of 4 inch pvc pipe that's about 3 ft long and try blowing through it to knock over paper cup. In fact, get one of your buddies to put his hand over the other end. It would take a lot of air movement for him to feel any real pressure or for the cup to be knocked over with just you blowing it. Understand what I'm saying? A 3" exhaust on a 2.2liter engine with no boost or no intentions of boost would really hurt your car.
So maybe the 3" catback isn't the deal for you, but certainly upgrading to a nice header and downpipe would definitely help out a lot. Although a 3" would be too big, 2.5" would probably be perfect.

Let me research which straw would be the best... I personally like the bendy type straws but then again I'm thinkin the rippled bend would make a lot of back pressure lol
No really, that's how I have to explain it to some of my friends and even my girlfriend(s) for them to understand it haha and it usually works
